About W2D
OUR MISSION: To provide programs that inform; to encourage women to be politically active; to endorse and support the candidates
and issues which best reflect the principles of the Democratic Party.
_______________________________________________________________________“So you think you are the only Democrat in Lake Oswego?”
This was the clarion call in 1998 when a small group of staunch Democrats plus one misguided, but
like-minded Republican, decided that they couldn’t be the only Democrats
south of Portland and west of the Willamette River. They
put their heads and ideals together and came up with West Willamette
Women Democrats (W3D), to advocate social and fiscal responsibility and offer
a forum for politically involved women—and men.
The following year, the name was changed to Willamette Women Democrats (W2D) and the founding members developed a list of values that has become the foundation of the organization.
In 2006, our membership and friends asked us to expand W2D's political activism and influence to include the collective use of its financial resources in the Oregon election process. As a result, we formed a political action committee, Willamette Women Democrats PAC.
In 2011, W2D officially incorporated. As W2D grows we remain vigilant in our efforts to increase membership, provide informative programs, promote progressive policies and encourage women to be politically active.
